Yeah, I left the blood option on, but that was pretty cool but messed up the scenery. Bloody hell though my first encounter with an enemy ended in a visceral ball of explosive claret. The presentation oh so slightly reminds me of the PS3 game Kingdoms of Amalur: The Reckoning. Torchlight 2 is a top-down action RPG with cartoon-like graphics. If not the skill trees, then at least the random loot. Unless you’re double hard, one would assume that most people like to grind in this type of game to level up and unlock the skill trees. As you can go and do as you please, having a prominent narrative would detract from the fun. Much like Baldur’s Gate, so I don’t keep referring to the Diablo, it’s a sandbox in that you go around and do many, many side quests. To be honest, the story isn’t really that important. If you haven’t played that, I highly encourage it. More so, it’s the same people behind The Mark of the Ninja Remastered cutscenes. Best I say it was like Samurai Jack with a palette from a teabag. The opening cutscene was a decent little animation. He needs to be stopped, and that’s where you come in. He’s the antagonist in Torchlight 2 as he’s gone quite mad, searching for a substance called Ember and generally getting up to no good. Sure, it’s a point-and-click action-RPG in the traditional mode, but it knows how to tap into everything that makes these types of games fun to play.Apparently, in Torchlight there was a playable character called The Alchemist. Torchlight II is one of those games that may not be innovative on the whole, but that just gets so many of the little things right. It’s incredibly polished, and everything just feels like it’s in the right place when you’re playing. Simply put, Torchlight II is a phenomenal game. Difficulty scales to present an even greater challenge and loot is instanced for each player.
